Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori

When Haruhi accidentally broke a vase belonging to the Ouran High School Host Club, her punishment was to have to repay it- by working in the Host Club as one of the hosts! Worse than that, they thought she was a boy, so she has to work as a boy. They soon found out their mistake, and Haruhi found out how "out of it" each of the rich kids were and some of them, like Club President Tamaki, fell in love with her.

Now, as most of the class goes on the class trip to France, Hikaru and Kaoru, the handsome twins, have fallen in love with Haruhi and are fighting over her affections! Because they are twins, Hikaru and Kaoru are usually almost frighteningly close, and look and dress exactly alike. They take pride in confusing the women who want to go out with them, and rejecting them for not being able to see the differences between them. But now their affections for Haruhi has driven a wedge into their seemingly perfect relationship.

Meanwhile, in France, the Club Vice-President Kyoya decides to do a good deed and track down Tamaki's mother, who Tamaki has been forbidden to see by his coldly correct grandmother. But when he misses finding her every single time he tries, can he ever connect up with her for Tamaki's sake? And if he does, what secrets will he find out about Tamaki, and Tamaki's family?

The situation with Hikaru and Kaoru cannot last, so one of the twins decides to step aside for the sake of his brother's happiness. But this change leads to other changes for the twins, when the brother who stepped aside colors his hair and changes his look so that they are no longer so alike. Will this hurt the host club?

Once again, the focus for the host club is on Tamaki, but only peripherally on Haruhi as she becomes the object of affections for both twins. The focus here is on the twins, both of whom are somewhat bratty and childish- they both go out with girls, but insist that she be able to tell them apart before they get serious. Since most girls can't, it has led them to believe that they are interchangeable. But Haruhi has been able to tell them apart from the very beginning- they each part their hair on a different side.

That flummoxed them when they first met her, and now they seem to think she may be the only one who values them as individuals. But who will win her hand, and is it possible for one twin to do the noble thing and step aside for his brother. At the same time, that twin decides to step out of the shadow of being a twin and become a new person by changing his whole look. But how will this affect the others in the club, Haruhi especially? That remains to be seen.

The other thread, is, of course, about Tamaki and his mother. We've seen in the past that his grandmother controls the family, but his father, even though he's like Tamaki in many ways, and runs the family business, is weak. He can't stand up to his own mother and bring the woman he loves- Tamaki's mother- back into the family. Instead, he seems to be hoping that Tamaki's charm will do the job. But honestly- relying on your teenage son to do what you can't? That's pretty darn weak from where I stand.

Oh, his dad might appear bluff and all "Hail, fellow, well met!" but he's not even as strong as Tamaki's mother, who was bedridden for ages. And that makes me wonder what Tamaki will do, with such a weak role-model for a parent. And how will his grandmother react to his liking Haruhi, a scholarship student? That, at least, will be interesting to see, if and when it happens. I am still finding this series interesting, and I do recommend it.
