Megumi Koroishi never believed in the story that his family was cursed by the Dragon God of the Kogami family to serve them all his life... until the day that the last member of the Kogami family, Suzuka Kogami, was found living in China. On the day he finally met her, he seemed to lose his mind, vowing to serve her to the best of his abilities for the rest of his life.
But now, Suzuka has fallen in love with Megumi, and she's torn, because she can't be sure that Megumi actually loves her, or if the curse is responsible for her feelings. He says he loves her, but how can she be sure it's really love, or just an outgrowth of his position as her devoted servant.
Feeling lost, Suzuka grows homesick, but feels better in the morning, after crying herself out. She searches for the lost scroll supposedly stolen by the infamous thief centuries ago. Is it in China, or could it be even closer? It seems that someone bought the scroll in China and brought it home as a souvenir. But if someone other than a member of the Kogami family opens it, the Dragon God will kill that person!
But even once she has retrieved the scroll, she's scared that if the Dragon God removes the curse, Megumi won't want anything to do with her. She's scared of being weak- scared of losing him despite his protestations of love for her. And will the Dragon God even reappear after all this time, or was the story of the Dragon God just a story? And what will he ask as a price for removing the curse, anyway?
Yeah, this series is strictly relationship fluff, and truth be told, I'm kind of getting tired of that. Or more specifically, this particular variation. It's all "Ooh, I'm scared he won't love me if the curse is broken, but I must know the truth and therefore break the curse!". But here we can finally see some kind of movement. The scroll is finally found, and there is a chance to speak to the Dragon God and see if he will break the curse, Suzuka's most heartfelt wish.
I won't give away the ending here, but the story is moving on, from mostly relationship stuff to, hopefully, mostly adventure stuff with some relationship tacked on. Stuff that's mostly just about relationships, or just about one relationship doesn't quite appeal to me any more. Especially when the relationship consists of hours of angsting followed by a few kisses.
I'm ready to move on and see if there is more to the story than just angsting and kisses and protestations and professions of love. While the former may appeal to the teenagers to whom this story is aimed, sugar, marshmallow fluff and angst can't compare to something with real meat on its bones. If the story doesn't pick up, I am going to have to abandon it. But I'll stick around for a bit first.
